My project is aimed toward educating both introverts (who experience) and extraverts (who observe). I want my project to be a resource for introverts seeking more knowledge about who they are and how they fit and thrive in society. This function is different for extraverts because for them, I am trying to eradicate bias associated with introversion and create a more tolerant environment for all personality types.
Working on my site has been an enjoyable process. I like the creative freedom that this domain provides; it allows me to completely personalize my project. Upon completion of this course, I plan to share my autoethnography with friends and family, and beyond that, I may continue to use the blog and portfolio functions as means of expression.
I have always enjoyed writing and creating. I tend to spend a lot of time on important essays or writing projects, and I find that I am usually satisfied with the end result. I do wish, however, that I could reach that satisfaction sooner. My writing process is also characteristic of my introverted personality because I must sit, reflect, and really think in order to find the words to effectively communicate my point. Despite its slow process, I enjoy writing. It is a great release, and I sometimes enjoy journaling or just casually unloading my thoughts. While I do think my writing has improved in the last few years, I wish I had some more formal or intensive training. Sometimes I feel as though I am not reaching my potential.
Interviews of introverts, potential questions:
How long have you known you were an introvert? How did you know? Can you describe your experience as an introvert? Are you generally happy with your personality, or do you wish it were different? Do you think introverts face advantages or disadvantages in the academic setting? Explain. How do you think society generally perceives introverts? Positively or negatively? Why? Who is my audience? My English 101 class and anyone with which I share my website.
What am I trying to communicate to them? A greater understanding of the constructs of introversion. What is my purpose? Broaden awareness of introversion and its misconceptions. What is the exigence of the situation? Misconceptions about introverts' personalities often create unnecessary boundaries and challenges for them in academic, social, and other domains. Fostering awareness of introversion's characteristics can help to mitigate these problems. Does my infographic need to be timely? Introversion has been present since the beginning of human thought and relations. It is not a recent phenomenon, although psychology has only recently taken an interest in the subject. How does the multimodal genre of autoethnography afford multiple ways to communicate and how best to take advantage of these affordances? Audiences are more likely to read infographics than, say, a review of literature, so writers must take advantage of this expanded audience. How will I use design principles I've learned in my composition? I will try to create my infographic as simplistic and easy to navigate as possible. What are aspects of accessibility that are opened up in my infographic? Use of space and contrast. What are aspects of accessibility that I need to be concerned with in my infographic? I should better label my photos. Writer/Designer: A Guide to Making Multimodal Projects, "What Are Multimodal Projects?" served to define several key terms in the creation of multimodal texts and helped to clarify often misunderstood concepts in its domain.
While reading, I took note of concepts that were either completely or mildly unfamiliar to me:
I found the chapter to be quite helpful in providing me with a better understanding of the multimodal concept and how I can us it in my writing and creating. I plan to study introversion, specifically introverts' advantages and disadvantages in various aspects of life, and attempt to answer the question as to why society is generally more accepting and encouraging of extroverts.
